Rome moves 2010 fest back two weeks

ROME -- The Rome International Film Festival, which concluded on Friday, will take place two weeks later than its traditional time slot in 2010, increasing the gap between the fifth edition of the event and the Venice Film Festival but likely encroaching on the Turin Film Festival.

Rome organizers said on Monday that the fifth edition of the festival would take place Oct. 29-Nov. 6. This year's edition of the festival took place Oct. 15-23, and all of the previous editions of the festival took place entirely during October.

With its inaugural edition in 2006, Rome ruffled feathers in the Italian film festival world when it established its dates between the far more established festivals in Venice (which held its 66th edition in September) and Turin (which will hold its 27th edition next month).

In 2010, the Venice festival will take place Sept. 1-11, meaning the gap between the two festivals will be 59 days, far wider than in any previous year. But the move is almost sure to shorten the distance between the end of the Rome festival and the start of the Turin event, which has not yet announced its 2010 dates but will take this year Nov. 13-21.
