ROME -- Producer Christine Vachon will take home the Raimondo Rezzonico Prize for independent film producers at the 61st Locarno Film Festival.

Vachon, whose production credits include Todd Haynes' "Poison" and "Far From Heaven," founded the production company Killer Films in 1995 and since then has worked with top talents, including directors Robert Altman and John Waters and actors Robin Williams and Hilary Swank.

"Fearless in the face of risk and controversy, Christine Vachon has carved out a distinctive path through the Hollywood industry," Locarno artistic director Frederic Maire said in announcing Vachon's selection.

It is the seventh time the Locarno event will award the Rezzonico Prize, which is named for the longtime president of the festival.

The festival, which is hosted in the lakeside mountain village of Locarno, Switzerland, is set for Aug. 6-16.
