Puerto Rico

Oct 29, 2008, ET

With a 40% tax credit in place since 1999, Puerto Rico has long had one of the country's largest film incentive programs. The problem was few people knew about it.

That was until 2005, when the current staff took over the film commission. Filming activity has exploded from an anemic $6 million-$8 million a year to record levels.

"We recognized that we needed a permanent, constant, continuous promotion of the incentive," says Cristina Caraballo of the Puerto Rico Film Commission. "This last fiscal year we did $47 million in film activity."

Recent feature productions visiting Puerto Rico include IFC Films' "Che" and MGM's "A Perfect Getaway," while "Men Who Stare at Goats," starring George Clooney, is set to shoot here.
