Ganz, Mandel make 'Bob' sing

Scribes brought on for the Touchstone musical comedy

Send in the clowns.

Comedy veterans Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel have been brought aboard to write new words for the Touchstone Pictures comedy "Bob: The Musical." Mark Waters ("The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past") is attached to direct. Chris Bender and J.C. Spink of Benderspink and Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson of Contrafilm are producing.

"Bob" centers on a thirtysomething guy who hates musicals and wakes up to find his entire life has become one. Tony-winning and Oscar-nominated composer-lyricist Marc Shaiman is writing the movie's songs.

Disney bought Mike Bender's (brother of producer Chris) original pitch in 2004. Since then, John August ("Corpse Bride") and Jon Lucas and Scott Moore ("Girlfriends Past") did their song-and-dance on the script.

Waters might make "Bob" his next big movie once he finishes post on "Girlfriends Past," and Ganz and Mandel will try to bring the screenplay in line with Disney's newly refined feature brand.

Ganz and Mandel, repped by CAA, have written such features as "Fever Pitch," "A League of Their Own" and "Parenthood."
