Magnolia slams into 'Weirdsville'
February 08, 2007 In the latest sale to come out of an active Slamdance Film Festival, Magnolia Pictures has nabbed all U.S. rights to the black comedy "Weirdsville," starring Scott Speedman, Wes Bentley and Taryn Manning, from producer Darius Films. Shoreline and William Morris Independent recently sold Magnolia all North American, U.K. and Australian rights to the horror film "The Signal" for $2.3 million following that film's midnight Sundance screening last month. U.S. rights were presold to Screen Media Films in late 2005 to help finance the project, with the stipulation that another buyer could pick it up if a higher offer was made (said by a source to be above the mid- to high-six figures).
