'Exempt' spec hits right note for OvertureJune 26, 2007, ET
Overture Films has acquired "Exempt," a spec script by Ian Shorr,
that Benderspink will produce.
The action thriller follows a fast-talking high schooler who, after getting kicked out of school and sent to a tony boarding school for problem teens, finds himself in bad trouble when he falls in with a group of "diplobrats," foreign teenagers with diplomatic immunity from the law. The project was brought into Benderspink by Langley Perer, who is overseeing. Bryan Furst will shepherd "Exempt" for Overture. The deal was in the low-six figures. Benderspink has been on a tear in recent weeks, setting up a slew of projects, including "The $40,000 Man" and "Party Up" at New Line Cinema, "Fiasco Heights" at Universal Pictures, "Odds" at Warners Bros. Pictures and "Golden Years" at Walt Disney Pictures. Shorr, repped by Benderspink and attorney Dave Krintzman, is in the same USC class of 2007 as Brian Nathanson, whose spec "The Occasionally Interesting Anti-Adventures of an Unnamed Girl" recently sold to Disney with Scott Rudin producing.
