Mailer’s son gets ‘Naked’ pic rights

By Carly Mayberry

Nov 13, 2007, ET

John Mailer has secured the film rights to “The Naked and the Dead,” his father Norman Mailer’s 1948 novel.

Mailer intends to produce the project along with Evanly Schindler and Maurizio Marchiori of New York-based multiplatform media company Tar Art.

“We’re privileged to bring this great literary achievement to a contemporary audience,” said Schindler, Tar Art’s co-founder and creative director.

“Naked and the Dead,” Mailer’s first novel, was based on his experiences in World War II. The author died Saturday in New York.

Warner Bros. released a film version of “Naked and the Dead,” directed by Raoul Walsh, in 1958.
