As the new, post-Paramount DreamWorks continues to come into focus,
Holly Bario and Mark Sourian have been named co-presidents of
production.
Bario joined DW at the beginning of the year after serving as an executive vp production at Universal; Sourian has been at DW since 1997. The pair will step into the post vacated by former DW exec Adam Goodman, who is remaining at Paramount as a production president, where, among other duties, he will oversee the DW-developed projects that Paramount will now take over. Although DW partners Steven Spielberg and Stacey Snider are reconstituting DreamWorks as a new company, with funding from India's Reliance Big Entertainment and a seven-year worldwide distribution pact with Universal, Bario and Sourian won't be starting the development process from scratch. As part of the Par/DW separation agreement, DW is taking over development of at least 17 projects that Par has the option to become involved with as a co-financier and co-distributor. Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci of K/O Prods., writers on the "Transformers" movies and producers of "Eagle Eye," are represented on the new DW's development list by "Deep Sea Cowboys," "Atlantis Rising" and "Cowboys and Aliens," a big-budget graphic novel adaptation that "Iron Man" writers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus have penned, with Robert Downey Jr. attached to star and Imagine co-producing. Producers Walter Parks and Laurie MacDonald, longtime Spielberg collaborators, are involved in usch projects as the comedy "Dinner for Schmucks," with Jay Roach attached as director; the '60s study "The Trial of the Chicago 7"; the thriller "Motorcade"; the graphic novel adaptation "The Damned"; and the Western "St. Agnes' Stand." Other projects include "The 39 Clues," which Jeff Nathanson is adapting from the Scholastic book series; the comic book adaptation "Button Man"; the anime adaptation "Ghost in the Shell," with Avi Arad producing; the thriller "Hereafter," with a script by Peter Morgan and Kathleen Kennedy producing; "Rainbow Bridge," an adaptation of the Japanese film "Yomigaeri"; the futuristic boxing movie "Real Steel," with ImageMovers and Don Murphy producing; "Escape Artist"; "The Kidnapping of Eduardo Mortara," based on the book; and "Quartermain." "Lincoln," which had been widely reported as moving over to DW, will remain at Par as one of the group of projects that DW retains an option to co-finance and co-distribute. Snider said of Bario and Sourian, "Steven and I are delighted to give them this new expanded opportunity to develop our films and bring them to the worldwide motion picture audience." During her tenure at Uni, Bario oversaw such films as "Bruce Almighty," "Meet the Parents," "The Fast and the Furious" and "The 40-Year-Old Virgin."
