So Disney will probably have to rein in its weekend expectations for Bruce Willis starrer "Surrogates," after the sci-fi thriller rung up an estimated $5 million in first-day grosses. That was good only for second place in Friday's domestic rankings and makes it likely "Surrogates" will land closer to the lower end of prerelease projections and register low to mid-teen millions through Sunday. Directed by Jonathan Mostow ("Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines"), "Surrogates" had been expected to fetch up to $20 million during its first weekend and compete for the top spot in the session's boxoffice. But it looks like last weekend's No. 1 pic -- Sony's 3D animated "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" -- is staging a run at repeat bragging rights, ringing up $5.6 million on Friday for $41 million in cumulative boxoffice over its first eight days in release. With strong matinees likely for the Sony pic on Saturday and Sunday, it's hard to see anything keeping "Meatballs" from topping the boxoffice heap once again this weekend. MGM's female-targeting musical "Fame" bowed in third place on the day with $3.5 million. Rated PG, "Fame" may still have a shot at salvaging a decent debut but only if the film's moms-with-daughters target audience can deliver a healthy uptick in daily boxoffice on Saturday. Warner Bros.' Matt Damon starrer "The Informant!" was fourth in the Friday rankings, with $2 million on the day and a $16.1 million cume. Overture Films' sci-fi pic "Pandorum" debuted poorly in fifth place, with $1.6 million in Friday coin.
