Intrepid Pictures has picked up the movie rights to "The Couriers," a series of action graphic novels, and have set writer Javier Grillo-Marxuach to adapt.

Written by Brian Wood and illustrated by Rob G, the series follows the adventures of two gun-toting mercenary couriers named Moustafa and Special who take on jobs other couriers do not, such as intelligence, large cash transfers, protection, assassinations and blockade-running.

Three graphic novels have been published so far by AiT/PlanetLar, and the series has been praised for its Hong Kong movie and Japanese animation-influenced kinetic art style and action set pieces.

Marc Evans and Trevor Macy of Intrepid are producing.

Intrepid has a multiyear production and co-financing deal with Rogue. The company's credits include this past weekend's "The Hitcher," co-produced with Platinum Dunes, and the upcoming comedy "Balls of Fury," made with Spyglass.

Grillo-Marxuach, repped by ICM and attorney Jaime Mandelbaum, was a writer and supervising producer on ABC's "Lost" and is working on NBC's "Medium." His writing credits include "Charmed" and "Boomtown."
