More Cannes coverage

CANNES -- Jim Caviezel will take up the crossbow to star in "William Tell: The Legend" for newly formed Flagship Films. Til Schweiger also will star in the project, to be directed by Nick Hurran from a script by Hurran and Scott Reynolds.

With Alison Semenza and Todd Moyer's Flagship as lead producer, Schweiger's Barefoot will serve as German co-producer while Castel Studio will co-produce from Romania.

Arclight Films' Gary Hamilton will serve as exec producer, with Arclight handling foreign sales.

Promising a fact-based retelling of the medieval legend, the film will recount how Caviezel's Tell challenged the Hapsburg monarch Hermann Gessler, played by Schweiger. Tell's defiance ignited an uprising against the Austrian government which led to the formation of Switzerland.

Principal photography is slated to begin in September in Romania.

Caviezel, best kown for "The Passion of the Christ," was repped by ICM; Schweiger was repped by Anonymous Content.

Earlier this week, Flagship announced its first production, "Weapon," starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and Vinnie Jones.
