Paramount Pictures has set a Christmas Day 2008 release date for the 11th "Star Trek" feature, to be directed by multihyphenate J.J. Abrams. The film will begin shooting in the fall, Paramount said late Tuesday. Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, who wrote "Mission: Impossible III" for Abrams and Paramount last year, have penned the screenplay and will executive produce along with Bryan Burk and Damon Lindelof, the co-creator with Abrams of ABC's "Lost." The screenplay is said to revolve around James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock during their Starfleet Academy years and into their first space mission. "Alex and Bob wrote an amazing script that embraces and respects the 'Trek' canon but charts its own course," Abrams said.
