New Yorker draws deal for 'Still Life'May 4, 2007, ET
NEW YORK -- In the latest acquisition from the Tribeca Film
Festival, art house distributor New Yorker Films nabbed all rights
to writer-director Jia Zhang-ke's Chinese drama "Still Life."
The film takes a poetic, documentary-style approach to the story of a man and woman searching for their missing spouses in a Chinese town torn apart by massive industrial work. "Life" was shot on HD in the 2000-year-old city of Fengjie, where the Three Gorges hydro project has displaced countless families. "Life" won the Golden Lion at last year's Venice Film Festival and had its U.S. premiere Saturday in Tribeca's World Narrative Competition. New Yorker Films' Dan Talbot plans a fall release in New York, with a national platform rollout to follow. The film was produced by Xu Pengle, Wang Tianyun and Zhu Jiong and executive produced by Chow Keung, Dan Bo and Ren Zhonglun.
