NEW YORK -- The Weinstein Co. and IFC Entertainment have
co-acquired North American rights to the serial-killer drama "Out
of the Blue."
The film is set for theatrical and video-on-demand distribution though IFC's First Take program and a DVD release through Genius Products. "Blue," tentatively scheduled for a May bow, tells the true story of New Zealander David Gray, who shot and killed more than a dozen people in his small hometown. It premiered in September at the Toronto International Film Festival. Tim White and Steven O'Meagher produced the Southern Light and Desert Road Films production. The New Zealand Film Commission, NZ on Air, TV3 and Dendy Films provided financing. Weinstein Co. executive vp acquisitions Michelle Krumm brought the project to her studio, which purchased the rights from NZ Film. Weinstein vp acquisitions Genna Terranova and director of acquisitions Eileen Rodriguez negotiated the deal with NZ Film head of sales and marketing Kathleen Drumm and business affairs exec James Thompson.
