Sony nabs 'White Dad'

By Leslie Simmons and Borys Kit

Sept 24, 2008, 12:00 AM ET

Sony Pictures has picked up "White Dad," a comedy pitch from scribe Alan Yang. Robert Simonds is attached to produce.

The acquisition was won in a competitive environment.

The comedy's plot is being kept under wraps. Elizabeth Cantillon and Adam Milano will oversee the project for the studio.

Simonds, a veteran comedy producer with such movies as "Big Daddy" and "Cheaper by the Dozen" under his belt, has "The Pink Panther 2" in the can and is working on a remake of "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels."

A former Harvard Lampoon writer, Yang recently inked a deal to write on the upcoming NBC spinoff of "The Office" starring Amy Poehler. His credits also include "The IT Crowd."

Yang is repped by WMA and attorney Jeff Frankel.
