Amy Smart and Patrick Wilson are taking off for "Life in Flight," an indie drama written by New York-based filmmaker and entrepreneur Tracey Hecht, who also is making her feature directorial debut. Plum Pictures is producing.

Lynn Collins and Fred Weller also have been cast.

The story follows an architect/builder (Wilson) with the perfect wife (Smart) and an adorable son. But an unexpected meeting with an urban designer (Collins) reveals the weak foundation upon which his life is built and forces him to reassess his life.

The film will shoot next month in Manhattan. Galt Niderhoffer, Daniela Taplin Lundberg, Celine Rattray and Pam Hirsh will produce. Private equity is backing the production.

Plum's credits include documentary "The Ground Truth: After the Killing Ends," which is on the Oscar shortlist, and "Lonesome Jim," directed by Steve Buscemi and starring Casey Affleck and Liv Tyler.

Smart recently starred on the crime series "Smith" and appeared opposite Jason Statham in "Crank." She also starred in "Just Friends." Smart is repped by Endeavor, Untitled and attorney Robert Offer.

Wilson is generating buzz for his performance in Todd Field's "Little Children." He has Edward Burns' "Purple Violets" and the ensemble drama "Evening" in the can. Wilson is repped by CAA.
