Sylvain White is in final negotiations to direct "The Losers," an
adaptation of a gritty DC-Vertigo comic book.
The deal breathes new life into project, which has come close to getting the lead out with such helmers as Peter Berg and Tim Story, among others. Joel Silver's Dark Castle is in negotiations to come aboard to develop and finance. Silver will produce along with Akiva Goldsman and Weed Road partner Kerry Foster as well as Film 44's Sarah Aubrey. "Losers" follows a highly trained and eclectic Special Ops team that is set up, betrayed and left for dead. They go on a quest to find who sold them out and why, righting wrongs they encounter along the way. The tales of "Losers" ran in the pages DC Comics' "G.I. Combat" and "Our Fighting Forces" in the 1970s and revolved around the adventures of a misfit group of U.S. troops during World War II. The book was relaunched about six years ago under the company's Vertigo imprint by writer Andy Diggle and artist Jock, who turned the title into a modern action-espionage adventure book. Berg and James Vanderbilt worked on the script. Gregory Noveck is overseeing for DC. Matt Reilly is overseeing for Warner. White, repped by WMA and Principato Young, is writing and attached to direct the adaptation of Frank Miller's comic "Ronin." The director, who was behind 2007's "Stomp the Yard," also is attached to direct "Castlevania." Borys Kit reported from Los Angeles; Steven Zeitchik reported from New York.
