NEW YORK -- The Second City will celebrate its 50th anniversary this fall with a series of events that will bring together alumni and bring back popular sketches and characters.

The producer of improv comedy said Wednesday that the celebrations will culminate the weekend of Dec. 11-13, when its theater in Chicago will host alumni reunion performances, such as an SCTV Reunion," panels and screenings. The "SCTV Reunion" will feature Joe Flaherty, Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Catherine O'Hara, Harold Ramis, Martin Short and Dave Thomas plus special guests.

"Beginning this fall, we will honor the Second City -- both those who make it a legend as well as those who will keep us legendary," said Andrew Alexander, proprietor and executive producer of The Second City.

Beginning as a small cabaret theater in 1959, The Second City has expanded into a comedy empire, including a school of improv-based arts and a corporate division that works with Fortune 500 companies in areas such as training, marketing and brand services, among others.

Among the long list of Second City alumni are Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, John Candy, Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, Chris Farley, Tina Fey, Bonnie Hunt, Jack McBrayer, Bill Murray, Mike Myers, Amy Poehler, Gilda Radner, Joan Rivers, Amy Sedaris, Nia Vardalos and Fred Willard.
