Academy Award winner Steven Zaillian will be presented with the
Distinguished Screenwriter Award at the 16th annual Austin Film
Festival & Conference, which runs from Oct. 22-29. The
"Schindler's List" writer also will be a featured speaker during
the conference.
He will receive the honor at the Awards Luncheon on Oct. 24 at the Austin Club. "Starting with our inaugural Distinguished Screenwriter Award recipient, Pulitzer Prize and Oscar-winning screenwriter Horton Foote, the Austin Film Festival annually celebrates a screenwriter for their body of work and contributions to furthering the art of screenwriting," fest exec director and co-founder Barbara Morgan said. Zaillian's other credits include "Awakenings," "The Falcon and the Snowman," "Jack the Bear "and "American Gangster." He co-wrote "Clear and Present Danger," "The Interpreter" and "Gangs of New York." He also wrote and directed "Searching for Bobby Fischer," "A Civil Action" and "All the King's Men." Other honorees at this year's Austin Film Festival include Ron Howard and Mitchell Hurwitz.
