U.K. films hit $3.3 bil at global boxoffice
July 21, 2008 Films from the U.K. made $3.3 billion at the worldwide boxoffice in 2007, a 50% jump from the $2.2 billion made in 2006, according to figures published Monday in the U.K. Film Council annual statistical yearbook. The Film Council said that 2007 cinema admissions in the U.K. were up 4% from 2006 at 162 million, with boxoffice receipts totaling 821 million pounds ($1.6 million) up 8% from the previous year. A total of 516 films were released in the U.K. last year, including 107 U.K. pictures that accounted for 29% of the market share.
