Producer Lucas Foster ("Mr. & Mrs. Smith") has optioned "The
Arms of the Sun," a novel by Roberto Zacco first published in Italy
by Mondadori.
The novel is part of a trilogy about the ancient Egyptian pharaohs and focuses on Nefertiti, the consort of Akhenaton, the first royal to espouse belief in a single god. The deal marks a first such foreign foray for Foster's Warp Films, which most recently released "Street Kings" starring Keanu Reeves and Forest Whitaker, and which is prepping the Film Department film "Law Abiding Citizen" with Gerard Butler. "This is a cool book about one of history's most intriguing women. It will be the basis for an epic romantic adventure film -- movies like this are why I became a filmmaker," Foster said. The project was brought to Warp by Stefano Gallini-Durante, a producer who reps a number of Italian book titles for English-language adaptation. The film will be produced by Foster ("Mr. & Mrs. Smith") and Gallini-Durante, with the script and development financed by Warp Films. Writers are being screened but casting is not yet under way. Plans are to shoot the $30 million film in Morocco and Dubai. The deal was facilitated by Lichter, Grossman, Nichols and Adler, the Los Angeles law firm that reps Foster and Gallini-Durante.
