The new Paramount Vantage is reaching across the Viacom hall for a
hybrid project with Comedy Central.
The companies have jointly acquired the rights to "Ghosts/Aliens," Trey Hamburger's supernatural comedy novel, and will develop as both a series and feature. Hamburger's book, released in November, centers on two pothead friends who set out on a quest to discover both ghosts and aliens. The series and film could be developed concurrently, execs said. Phil Johnston will write the script. The project is the second collaboration between the network and the specialty unit (the companies earlier announced they'd partner up for "Beat Kip"), which under Guy Stodel aims to make more comedies and genre films. Comedy Central programming president Lauren Corrao, meanwhile, has said she wants to beef up the net's feature development. Scott Aversano, the former MTV/Nick Films execs who recently exited his overall deal on the Paramount lot, will produce with partner Carrie Beck; Aversano was a producer on another key Comedy Central property, the film version of "Team America: World Police."
