Indie producers Anonymous Content and the Film Department are
joining forces to develop "The American Way," a World War II-era
mob drama from first-time screenwriter Brian Kistler.
In a saga described as "Once Upon a Time in America" meets "The Untouchables," two brothers are profoundly affected by their parents' murder, leading one to the FBI and the other to a life of crime. Despite bad blood between them, the imprisoned sibling agrees to go undercover to help his brother take down an infamous gangster. AC's Steve Golin and FD's Mark Gill and Robert Katz are producing the project. FD's Neil Sacker is exec producing with AC's Matt DeRoss, who submitted the project to FD creative exec Natalie Borlaug. Kistler was signed to WMA in September on the strength of "Way," which blends fictional characters with real-life mobsters from the era. "Way" is one of the most ambitious projects yet for AC and may be one of the first out of the gate for FD, whose "The Rebound" is attracting interest from distributors.
