Walt Disney Pictures has acquired Brian Nathanson's spec "The
Occasionally Interesting Anti-Adventures of an Unnamed Girl" for
Scott Rudin to produce through his studio-based shingle. Sources
peg the sale at low-six figures.
The story centers on an imaginative young girl who, stifled by her banal suburban life and restrictive parents, runs away to a fantastical world that proves to be darker than she had hoped for. The project is described as in the vein of "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" and a modern-set "The Wizard of Oz." Disney's LouAnne Brickhouse and Todd Murata are shepherding the project for the studio. Nathanson is repped by ICM and managers Langley Perer and Jill McElroy at Benderspink.
