'Slaughter' houses trio of shriekers

By Gregg Goldstein

Nov 8, 2007, ET

Screen scream queens Shawnee Smith, Erica Leerhsen and AnnaLynne McCord will star in the horror film "Slaughter" for Maverick Films, Angel Baby Entertainment and the Slamdance Film Festival.

Smith ("Saw II" and "Saw III"), Leerhsen ("The Texas Chainsaw Massacre") and McCord ("Day of the Dead") will play actresses unknowingly cast in a Japanese snuff film.

"Memoirs of a Geisha" actors Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa and Eugenia Yuan will play a director and producer, respectively. Karl Yune will play the women's co-star, and Jonathon Trent will play the boyfriend of McCord's character.

Victor Garcia's feature is based on the script by 2007 Slamdance Horror Screenplay Competition winners Nathan Brookes and Bobby Lee Darby. Producing are Maverick's Mark Morgan, Guy Oseary and Cheri Wozniak, Angel Baby's Gregory Segal and John Andrew Gallagher and Slamdance's Peter Baxter.

Leerhsen replaces Dominique Swain, who dropped out of the project because of scheduling conflicts. The film is part of a three-year deal for Maverick, Angel Baby and Slamdance to finance and co-produce each year's horror contest winner. Overseen by Slamdance's John Stoddard and Baxter, the submission deadline for the next contest is Nov. 21. The winner will be announced in January at the Slamdance awards ceremony in Park City.

Smith is repped by Kritzer Levine Wilkins Entertainment and attorney Todd Rubenstein.

Leerhsen is repped by APA, Kritzer Levine Wilkins Entertainment and attorney Jamie Feldman.

McCord is repped by Innovative.
