Scribe tapped for 'Zoo' trip

Adapting Benjamin Mee's memoir for Fox

By Jay A. Fernandez

June 28, 2009, 11:00 PM ET

Aline Brosh McKenna has been stocking up on the Purell.

The "27 Dresses" screenwriter is penning "We Bought a Zoo" for Fox. The studio picked up the rights to Benjamin Mee's memoir in February for former Firm exec Julie Yorn to produce.

Mee's book, published in September by Weinstein Books, tells of how he, his cancer-stricken wife and their kids purchased a rundown zoo in the English countryside along with its 200 exotic animals and rehabilitated them.

Marc Gordon is co-producing; John Fox and Alex Young are overseeing for the studio.

McKenna, who is repped by Hohman Maybank Lieb, wrote the screenplay for "The Devil Wears Prada." J.J. Abrams is producing her comedy script "Morning Glory" for Paramount, and MGM will release "Fame," which she co-wrote, in September.
