By Tatiana Siegel

June 29, 2007, ET

Fox Searchlight has optioned Carter Blanchard's spec "Near Death," with Aaron Kaplan and Sean Perrone attached to produce.

The story is described as a psychological sci-fi thriller set in the world of near-death experiences.

Claudia Lewis and Jeremy Steckler are overseeing the project for Searchlight.

Kaplan/Perrone Entertainment, which produced "You, Me and Dupree," has several projects in development, including the supernatural thriller "Knowing" at Columbia Pictures and New Line Cinema's horror film "Dead Asleep," which Blanchard penned.

Blanchard's writing credits also include "Smoke" for the Mayhem Project and the "Immortals" at Universal Pictures.

He is repped by UTA and attorney Peter Grossman.
