Hunt talks 'Then She Found Me'

By Andy Swift

March 18, 2008, ET

Complete ShoWest coverage

When asked about her feature directorial debut, "Then She Found Me," Helen Hunt told The Hollywood Reporter she is proud that the "very weird, funny story made it on film." She won the ShoWest Award for Breakthrough Director of the Year for her work on the film.

Along with directing the picture and contributing to the screenplay, Hunt stars in the romantic dramedy as a woman who simultaneously has to deal with an unexpected divorce, the death of her adoptive mother and a forced relationship with her eccentric birth mother. Starring alongside Hunt are some other familiar faces, including Bette Midler, Matthew Broderick and Colin Firth.

Though she directed several episodes of her sitcom "Mad About You," this was the first time she sat in the director's chair for a feature film. And as she accepted her award, she reflected on all the directors she has worked so hard to please during her career, including her own father.
