Working Title puts heart into 'Young' movieJune 5, 2007, ET
Working Title Films has optioned the rights to the documentary
"Young@Heart" with an aim to adapt it into feature film.
The critically acclaimed docu, which originally was broadcast in the U.K. on Channel 4 and More4 late last year, revolves around a chorus of New England senior citizens who defy the stereotypes of old age by performing cover songs to rock and pop classics. The film follows the group as they rehearse, under a strict musical director, for their latest showcase in which they put a unique spin on a repertoire of songs from the likes of the Clash, Coldplay, Talking Heads and Jimi Hendrix. The group has traveled the world under the banner of the Young at Heart Chorus, a group formed 25 years ago. Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner will produce the feature with "Young" filmmakers Stephen Walker and producer Sally George, who was behind the award-winning "Whatever Happened to Susi?" and will serve as executive producers on the film. No writers have yet been hired to adapt. The movie nabbed Emmy-nominated Walker an award for best art docu and the best of 2007 special prize at the Rose d'Or Festival in Lucerne, Switzerland. The film also will be screened at this year's Los Angeles Film Festival, which runs June 21-July 1. Working Title has been on a hot streak with recent releases "Hot Fuzz" and "Mr. Bean's Holiday." The company is prepping "Frost/Nixon," the adaptation of the Peter Morgan play being directed by Ron Howard; "Hippie Hippie Shake" with Sienna Miller and Cillian Murphy; and "Wild Child," starring Emma Roberts.
