Swine flu delays 'Salvation' in Mexico

Sony pushes back film's release until July

"Terminator Salvation" has become the latest summer tentpole to fall victim to the swine flu in Mexico, where Sony has postponed its release of the Christian Bale starrer until July 31.

"Salvation" -- which Warner Bros. has set for the domestic Memorial Day frame -- had been scheduled to unspool June 5 south of the border. Sony also confirmed a shift in the Mexican opening of its Tom Hanks starrer "Angels & Demons" to June 12 from May 15.

"Like everyone, we have been closely monitoring the situation in Mexico all week, and we continue to be extremely concerned about this health crisis," Sony spokesman Steve Elzer said.

Previously, Fox postponed the release of its "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" from its intended debut in Mexico this weekend, tentatively scheduling the Hugh Jackman actioner for a May 14 bow in the territory.

Paramount is looking for a new opening date for "Star Trek" in Mexico after pulling it from a planned May 8 slot.
