Three swing at 'Mourning' pitch

Companies on board for Loughery's supernatural thriller

By Jay A. Fernandez

Sept 13, 2009, 06:18 PM ET

Screenwriter David Loughery has sold his pitch "Mourning After" to Sidney Kimmel Entertainment, A Bigger Boat and GreeneStreet Films.

With echoes of Hitchcock's "Vertigo," Loughery's supernatural thriller concerns a San Francisco man who ominously falls in love with a beautiful woman with a mysterious secret. The story is based on an original idea from Charles Segars and Steve Ireland.

SKE, ABB and GSF will co-finance, develop and produce the project. Sparkler Entertainment ("National Treasure: Book of Secrets") brought the pitch to Kimmel and will serve in a production capacity. Sparkler's Andrew Bernstein will serve as exec producer.

The three companies also are collaborating on the crime thriller "Mixed Blood," with Phillip Noyce attached to direct and Samuel L. Jackson set to star.

The ICM-repped Loughery wrote the Screen Gems thrillers "Obsessed" and "Lakeview Terrace" (with Howard Korder). He also worked on the screenplays for "Money Train," "The Three Musketeers" and "Passenger 57."
