Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Rainn Wilson and Natalie Portman are starring in "Hesher," an indie drama being directed by Spencer Susser.

The movie marks Portman's debut as a producer, via her new Handsomecharlie Films. Lucy Cooper from the Last Picture Co. and Corner Store Entertainment's Matthew Weaver and Scott Prisand also are producing.

The story, written by Susser and David Michod, centers on the story of a family struggling to deal with a loss and the anarchist who helps them do it.

Gordon-Levitt is playing the title character, who moves in with the family and tried to help the son. Wilson is the dad trying to keep his family together but can't escape his own grief. Portman plays a supermarket worker who gets involved with the family.

Robert Ortiz co-produces. Kimmel International, headed by Mark Lindsay, will be introducing the film this month at the Festival de Cannes.

Endeavor packaged and structured the financing for the film and will work with CAA to co-rep the film for domestic rights.

The movie begins shooting next week in Los Angeles.

CAA-repped Gordon-Levitt, who stars in this summer's "(500) Days of Summer" as well as "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra," recently booked a lead role in Christopher Nolan's "Inception."

Wilson, repped by Endeavor and 3 Arts Entertainment, appears in this summer's tentpole "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" and will shoot the indie comedy "Peep World" this year.

Portman, repped by CAA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners, next stars with Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire in Jim Sheridan's "Brothers."
