New Line has picked up the romantic comedy spec "Going the Distance," written by former company script reader Geoff LaTulippe.

Nanette Burstein, who helmed documentary "American Teen," is attached to direct, while Adam Shankman and Jennifer Gibgot are producing via their Offspring Entertainment.

The story revolves around a couple's struggle to maintain a long-distance relationship between Chicago and Los Angeles.

Michael Disco and Dave Neustadter are overseeing.

Shankman directed "Hairspray" for New Line and is producing "17 Again" for the studio.

Burstein, who also directed the documentary "The Kid Stays in the Picture," is repped by CAA.
