China 'Vote' tops Silverdocs honorsJune 18, 2007, ET
NEW YORK -- "Please Vote for Me," Weijun Chen's look at democracy
in China, won the Sterling Award for best feature Sunday at the
Silverdocs AFI/Discovery Channel Documentary Festival.
AJ Schnack's biopic "Kurt Cobain About A Son" won the Cinematic Vision Award for a feature film. Ricki Stern and Annie Sundberg's examination of the Darfur genocide, "The Devil Came on Horseback," won the Witness award. The Silverdocs/American Film Market award for a film that showing exceptional market promise went to Doug Pray's look at truckers, "Big Rig." Shahar Cohen and Halil Efrat's "Souvenirs," in which Cohen retraces his father's World War II experience, won the audience award for a feature. The music documentary award went to Raul De la Fuente's road trip with two experimental musicians, "Nomadak Tx" The winners received more than $55,000 in cash, goods and in-kind filmmaking services. The Sterling Award feature jury included Red Envelope Entertainment head of acquisitions Liesl Copland, South by Southwest Film Conference and Festival head Matt Dentler and Oscar-winning "Born into Brothels" director Ross Kauffman. The Music Documentary Jury included actress/director Rosanna Arquette, "Paradise Lost" director Joe Berlinger and photojournalist Brian Liu.
