It was Black Friday at A&E Television Networks with the layoffs
of 100 employees, 10% of the company's workforce.
A spokesman for A&ETN confirmed the number of layoffs and their direct correlation to the August merger between A&ETV and Lifetime Entertainment Services. The cuts were made across all divisions, with Lifetime particularly affected. The list of the pink-slipped executives at the female-centered network included unscripted head Jessica Samet, head of casting Rick Jacobs and two senior PR executives. Under the post-merger structure, Lifetime is being brought into the A&ETN fold alongside A&E and History Channel under A&ETN president and CEO Abbe Raven. The combined company is jointly owned by Disney-ABC and Hearst, each holding a 42.5% stake, and NBC Universal controlling the remaining 15.5%.
