UMG acquires Univision Music Group
May 05, 2008 The final acquisition, announced Monday following the Federal Trade Commission's approval of the deal, makes UMG the largest Latin music company in North America with a 49.84% share of the U.S. Latin music market, according to Nielsen SoundScan numbers. Universal Music Latino; Machete; the newly acquired labels from the Univision purchase (Fonovisa, Univision Records and Disa); Universal Music Mexico and Central America; and Latin publishing in the U.S. and Mexico, including the newly acquired Edimonsa, Disa and the Fonovisa catalogs. Lopez, whose tenure at Universal has been marked by innovative measures -- including the creation of GTS Global Talent Services, a management service division -- and a strategic global approach to artist development, will continue to be based out of Miami, reporting to Zach Horowitz, president and COO of Universal Music Group.
