'Eureka' nabs Newman for role

'Veronica Mars' alum to appear in at least five episodes

Jaime Ray Newman has been tapped for a multiepisode arc in Sci Fi Channel's "Eureka."

The "Veronica Mars" alum will play Dr. Tess Fontana, a brilliant engineer and astrophysicist who sees things differently than those around her. Her scientific imagination knows no bounds putting her at odds with the mainstream scientific community.

Her character also is a potential love interest for Sheriff Jack Carter (Colin Ferguson).

Newman will appear in at least five episodes.
