Oliver Platt is set to co-star opposite Laura Linney in Showtime's dark comedy pilot "The C Word."

The pilot stars Linney as Cathy, a suburban wife and mother forced to face a diagnosis of cancer but who manages to find the lighter side of a dark situation.

Platt will play her husband, Paul, a narcissistic but lovable manchild.

On the Sony TV/Original TV-produced pilot, Platt joins recently cast John Benjamin Hickey and Phyllis Somerville. All three are regulars. "Precious" star Gabourey Sidibe is in talks for a guest stint.

Bill Condon is directing "C Word"; Darlene Hunt wrote the pilot.

Hunt is executive producing with Neal Moritz, Vivian Cannon and Linney.

Platt will next be seen in "2012."
