Agents of change at Innovative

Overhaul includes formation of an executive committee

Innovative Artists has undergone the most significant overhaul in the agency's 26-year history. Chief among the changes is the formation of an 11-person executive committee.

Agency founder Scott Harris wanted more of his staff to manage the company as it grows its business. For the first time, agents have been given titles.

In addition to president Harris, the committee includes newly named executive vp Nevin Dolcefino (talent department) and vps Paul Blechner (business affairs), Kimberly Carver (literary, alternative), Maury DiMauro (New York -- beauty, commercials), Harvey Finkel (CFO), Gary Gersh (New York -- talent, Broadway), Debbie Haeusler (production/below the line), Jonathan Howard (talent), Marcia Hurwitz (commercials, voice-over) and Craig Shapiro (talent).

Innovative has about 160 employees and offices in Los Angeles, New York and Chicago.

"As the company continued to grow, it was evident to me that it was too much for me to try to singularly manage and at the same time still be an agent," Harris said. "It was the combination of that and also believing in people internally here who have grown and legitimately deserve the opportunity to be involved in making decisions and running this company with me."

Innovative has also launched an agent-trainee program, spearheaded by Howard, in which a dozen staffers are taking part. And the company by month's end is launching a new Web site, which will include links to sample reels from clients in the comedy and production departments.

"It's part of branding ourselves in a more public way," Dolcefino said. "We thought it was time to put more of a public face on our work and who we are."
