Danish director beckoned for 'Me to You'

Danish director Susanne Bier is in negotiations to helm "Which Brings Me to You," a romantic comedy produced by Anonymous Content.

The pic, which is still solidifying financing, is based on Julianna Baggott and Steve Almond's epistolary novel. It centers on a single man and single woman who meet at a wedding and begin a relationship in which they write letters describing past romances and missteps. Published in 2006, the book earned strong reviews as a clever look at modern romance.

Keith Bunin penned the script; Steve Golin and Richard Brown are producing.

Bier made a name for herself with the Danish-language melodrama "After the Wedding" -- which was nominated for a foreign-language Oscar in 2007 -- and went on to helm the Benicio del Toro recovery tale "Things We Lost in the Fire" for Paramount.

The CAA-repped director also helmed the original Danish-language "Brothers," the war picture that is being remade by Jim Sheridan as a Natalie Portman starrer for Lionsgate. She also is attached to the romantic comedy "Lost for Words" for Universal and Working Title; that pic concerns a movie star who falls for his translator.

Bier's "Brings" gig would continue a hot streak of sorts for Danish filmmakers. Countrywoman Lone Scherfig is beginning to make the awards rounds for "An Education," her coming-of-age story about an underage romance in 1960s London.

Anonymous is in production on "The Beaver," the Mel Gibson-starrer based on Kyle Killen's script.
