Connelly joins 'Earth Stood Still' redo

Jennifer Connelly will star opposite Keanu Reeves in Fox's "The Day the Earth Stood Still."

The project is a remake of Robert Wise's 1951 film about an alien who comes to Earth with a message: Live in peace or be destroyed. Connelly will play Helen, the scientist who makes first contact with the alien named Klaatu (Reeves).

Scott Derrickson is directing from a script by David Scarpa. Erwin Stoff produces.

Production is slated to begin next month in Vancouver.

Connelly won an Oscar for her role in "A Beautiful Mind" and most recently was seen in "Blood Diamond." She will next appear in "Reservation Road."

Connelly is repped by ICM.
