Animation's first stereoscopic 3-D digital release.
The company behind "Open Season" (which had a 3-D Imax film-based release) and "Surf's Up" has set a Jan. 15, 2010, release date. "Food falling from the sky lends itself so well to 3-D," said Bob Osher, president of Sony Pictures Entertainment's Digital Production division. Sony Pictures Imageworks' animation and 3-D process ("Beowulf") will be used. In release news, Sony Pictures Animation's "Hotel Transylvania" -- which had been slated for Sept. 25, 2009 -- has not announced a new release date.
