Shanghai fest bans Sharon Stone

May 29, 2008 The organizing committee of the Shanghai International Film Festival permanently banned Sharon Stone and her films because of her comments about the Sichuan earthquake, a SIFF spokesman told The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday. The "Basic Instinct" star also was dropped from local Christian Dior ads, for which she is a spokesperson, according to the state-run English-language newspaper China Daily. The films fall into three main groups: commemoration of the late Anthony Minghella, who was set to chair the jury at this year's festival; commemoration of Swedish director Ingmar Bergman; and features by legendary Hong Kong studio Shaw Brothers, Chen said.
