TBS tech problem delayed ALCS telecast

Game 6 broadcast began 20 minutes into play

NEW YORK -- A technical glitch at TBS headquarters in Atlanta led to a blackout of the first 20 minutes of Game 6 of the American League Championship Series on Saturday night.

Instead of watching the Tampa Bay Rays try to advance to the World Series against the championship Boston Red Sox, viewers saw a repeat of "The Steve Harvey Show" while across the screen in big letters TBS said that technical problems kept the game from the air.

"Two circuit breakers in our Atlanta transmission operations tripped, causing the master router and its backup -- which are necessary to transmit any incoming feed outbound -- to shut down," Turner Sports said in a statement Saturday night. "This impacted our live feed from being distributed to any of the other networks in the Turner portfolio and caused the delay in our coverage."

Turner apologized for the incident.

Meanwhile, the game returned in the second inning with the score tied 1-1. The Red Sox, who were facing elimination, won 4-2. The series is now tied 3-3, with the winner of Sunday night's game heading to the World Series. The series will open in either Tampa Bay or Boston at 8 p.m. Wednesday against the Philadelphia Phillies.
