TruTV is chasing after the people who chase news.
The former Court TV network has ordered six half-hour episodes of "L.A. Stringers," a real-life series about freelance news chasers that is produced by 44 Blue Prods. in association with Buena Vista Prods. The series, which likely will debut in September, aims to tell the behind-the-scenes stories behind various 10-second clips that air during local and national newscasts. Viewers go along for the ride with nighttime stringers as they chase after compelling footage. Described as "adrenaline junkies," the stringers drive cars outfitted with multiple police, fire and EMS scanners. Their mission is to capture the most visually dramatic footage of fires, shootings, car crashes, explosions, etc., and sell it to news stations. 44 Blue's Rasha Drachkovitch is exec producing. His company's credits include MSNBC's top-rated "Lockup," which recently was spun off into "Lockup: Raw." Marc Karzen is the producer. For truTV, Robyn Hutt is the exec in charge of production, and Lori Siegel is exec producer. News hounds get exposure on truTV'L.A. Stringers' focuses on freelance reportersMay 5, 2008, 01:00 AM
