Not just your kids' choice

6 mil tune into Nick awards show

By Kimberly Nordyke

April 3, 2007, ET

Nickelodeon had good reason to celebrate after the Kids' Choice Awards.

The 20th edition of the annual awards show, which aired live at 8-9:30 p.m. Saturday from UCLA's Pauley Pavilion in Westwood, was the event's most-watched telecast ever, with an average of more than 6.1 million total viewers tuning in to the slime fest, according to Nielsen Media Research. That represents a 3% increase from last year's telecast.

The 2007 Kids' Choice Awards also set records with kids 2-11 (3.4 million), kids 6-11 (2.8 million) and tweens 9-14 (2.6 million).

Nickelodeon noted that the awards show, hosted by Justin Timberlake, set records despite competition from the NCAA Men's Final Four coverage on CBS.

In addition, more kids than ever before voted on the awards this year, with 40.8 million votes being cast on Nick.com, Nicktropolis, TurboNick and Nick Mobile, up 54% from last year. The KCA telecast also gave Nick.com its highest traffic day ever, with 1.6 million unique visitors and more than 25.5 million page views. Kids also cast more than 1 million votes on Nick's digital platforms Saturday for the first-ever virtual sliming, which featured Vince Vaughn.
