'Geek' peak: Teen demo boosts CWSept 20, 2007, ET
The season premiere of the CW's "Beauty and the Geek" was sitting
pretty with teens and female teenagers Tuesday night, while CBS'
"Big Brother" had a nice sendoff.
The two-hour season opener of "Geek" ranked first in broadcast primetime among teens (1.6 rating/6 share) and female teens (1.9/7), according to Nielsen Media Research. The CW also ranked first for the night in those demos and second among adults 18-34 (2.0/6) and women 18-34 (2.7/7), behind NBC. It should be noted that the premiere's 18-34 average (2.0/6) was off 31% from the show's January bow, though "Geek," which is airing for the first time in the fall, did kick off the CW's 2007-08 season after a summer full of repeats. Among total viewers, "Geek" averaged 3.4 million. Meanwhile, "Big Brother" and NBC's "The Biggest Loser" were the biggest stars in primetime Tuesday. "Big Brother" (8.7 million, 3.4/9 in adults 18-49) was the night's top show in viewership as well as the series' highest-rated telecast all season. But matching it pound for pound was the two-hour episode of "The Biggest Loser" (7.9 million, 3.4/9), which beat "Big Brother" at 9 p.m. in viewership and the demo. "Biggest Loser" followed up on last week's strong premiere, up 6% week-over-week and up 14% in the demo and 12% in viewers compared with last year. "Biggest Loser" gave NBC a big win in adults 18-49. CBS' "Power of 10" (7.8 million, 1.9/6) gave the network the win in viewership, though "Biggest Loser" won in a walk in the demo. Further behind at 8 p.m. was ABC's "Just for Laughs" (6.8 million, 2.0/6). ABC News' two-hour special "Elvis: Viva Las Vegas" (6.4 million, 1.8/5) didn't give ABC much to cheer about. Neither did Fox, settling for fourth place for the night with repeats of "House" (5.9 million, 2.0/6) and the new drama "K-Ville" (4.8 million, 1.6/4). For Tuesday, NBC averaged 7.3 million viewers and a 2.9/8 in adults 18-49, followed by CBS (8.1 million, 2.4/7), ABC (6.5 million, 1.9/5), Fox (5.3 million, 1.8/5) and the CW (3.4 million, 1.7/5).
