By Nellie Andreeva

July 28, 2008, 04:01 PM ET

Mario Lopez is the new host of the syndicated entertainment magazine "Extra."

Lopez, who had served as a correspondent for the show and co-host of its weekend edition, will take over as a daily host Sept. 15 when the Telepictures-produced strip launches its 15th season.

Longtime "Extra" co-host Dayna Devon will stay on as a special correspondent and backup host for Lopez.

Her co-host Mark McGrath is leaving the show after a three-year stint to return to his music career. His band Sugar Ray is recording a new album, which will be documented by "Extra."

Distributed by Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution, "Extra" is renewed through the 2011-12 season.

Lopez is repped by WMA.
