AMC is poised to give a second-season pickup to its drama series
"Mad Men."
The cable network apparently is close to a deal that will see 13 more episodes of the critically acclaimed show produced for a summer 2008 bow. "Mad Men," created by executive producer/writer Matthew Weiner and produced by Lionsgate, marks AMC's first effort in the original scripted drama series arena. It is set on Madison Avenue in the 1960s and follows a group of advertising executives. The cast includes Jon Hamm, Elisabeth Moss, Vincent Kartheiser, January Jones and Christina Hendricks. AMC spokesman Matt Frankel declined comment on the renewal. "Mad Men" debuted July 19 to 1.6 million viewers but has dropped off since then, averaging 841,000 viewers for its most recent episode (10 p.m. Thursday). The Season 1 finale airs Oct. 18.
