'SNL' performs well with pols in the house

By James Hibberd

March 4, 2008, ET

NBC's "Saturday Night Live" fell from last week's two-year ratings high, but still pulled off its second-best performance of the season.

Hosted by Ellen Page with musical guest Wilco, "SNL" earned a 5.5 rating in metered market households.

That's down 10% from last week when "SNL" returned to the air after a four-month hiatus because of the writers strike, yet 22% higher than its prestrike average.

'SNL' has made headlines in recent weeks by spoofing the hotly contested Democratic primary, with presidential contender Sen. Hillary Clinton referencing the show during her Ohio debate with Sen. Barack Obama.

Saturday's sketches included guest appearances by Clinton and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
